March 19, 2011 - SXSW Week in Austin, TX

We had a blast in Austin, TX this week!  SXSW is very cool.  Lots to see and do...  Two of us flew.  Two of us drove.  Jay and I drove down with the guitars and Billy's cajon.  The drive was long but good.  Total miles driven... there and back - 1,874.

Here's a short run-down of the week's events:
  • Left Nashville Tuesday...sometime late morning.
  • Arrived in Dallas, TX Tuesday night.  Stopped to sleep at a Motel 6.

  • Left Dallas Wednesday morning.
  • Arrived in Austin, TX @TheCasaCullen www.casacullen.com Wednesday afternoon.
  • Had a really relaxing time... dinner and drinks on the patio at Freddie's
Our friends Morgan and Walt Cullen of www.casacullen.com were kind enough to put Jay and I up for a couple of days.  Such great hosts!  They showed us around Austin and even helped us pick up an extra gig at Patsy's Cafe www.twitter.com/patsyscafeatx for happy hour on St. Patty's Day from 4 to 6.
  • We had brunch at Magnolia Cafe http://themagnoliacafe.com/ on South Congress Ave. Thursday morning with a really great Austin photographer... Mel Cole of  http://www.iheartphotos.com/   She was awesome!
  • Austin S. met us at Patsy's Thursday afternoon.  A big thanks to Debbie Watson for getting her Austin, TX friends out to Patsy's.  Five of Debbie's Austin, TX friends came to Patsy's to check us out!
  • We picked Billy up from the airport Friday morning.  Headed over to New World Deli to check out our friends Jim Patton and Sherry Brokus of 3rd Coast Music, who were playing a 30 minute set as part of the "notSXSW events."  While we were there we also heard The Fabulous Ginn Sisters http://www.theginnsisters.com/.  They were great.
  • After that we headed over to Threadgill's for a quick meeting with Bill Wence www.billwencepromotions.com (such a nice guy!) who introduced us to some of his friends.  Heard some great music on the outdoor stage at Threadgill's... all a part of Burnside Distribution's SXSW Lawn Party.  Good times.
  • Friday night we played at Trophy's.  A big thanks to Madalyn Sklar of the GoGirls Organization www.gogirlsmusic.com for hooking us up with that gig.
  • Mel Cole the great Austin photographer, who we'd met earlier in the week for brunch, totally ROCKS!!! for coming out to Trohpy's and bringing a couple of friends with her to hear us play.  Austin's parents also came up from Kingsville, TX!  And the Cullen's were there of course!  Mark Roberson (Jay's friend and boss) and his nephew Heath made it out to the show.  We had a lot of support.  Thanks to everyone who came out!
We're glad to be back home in good old Nashville after such a wonderfully busy week full of driving, networking, music, and friends.  We hope to get back to Austin, TX again soon!
